esk, New Delhi. If you or any family member has a savings account in Punjab National Bank ( PNB ), then this news is for you. The country's second largest government bank had given important information to all its customers in June.

The bank had said that it will close some special savings accounts from July

1. Today is July 1, which means many PNB savings accounts have been closed today.

Which savings accounts will be closed

The bank had said that there has been no transaction in many savings accounts for a long time. In such a situation, the bank closed those accounts which have not been active for the last 3 years. This means that the bank has closed those bank accounts which either have zero balance or there has been no transaction for three years.

The bank took this decision to avoid security risk. Many times fraudsters use such accounts for fraud. In such a situation, PNB has taken this step to reduce banking fraud.

These accounts will not be changed

  • The bank has clarified that those savings accounts which are linked to any Demat account, lockers will not be closed.
  • Apart from this, accounts of students and minors will also not be closed.
  • Those accounts which were opened for government schemes like PMJJBY, PMSBY, SSY, APY or Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme will also remain active.
  • If any savings account has been frozen by the court, tax department or any authority, it will also not be closed.

What to do to activate the account

If your savings account gets closed and you want to get it activated again, then you will have to go to your bank branch as soon as possible. Here you will have to get the KYC of the bank account done and submit the documents related to KYC.

For KYC, the account holder will have to provide ID proof such as PAN card, Aadhar card, passport or driving license. Apart from this, a copy of the address proof document will also have to be given.
