Moscow: Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia and his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin will focus on bilateral trade and economic relations and some new areas of scientific and technological research. He expressed confidence that the talks will yield concrete results in many areas.
On PM Modi's visit, Vinay Kumar said that comprehensive talks on trade, economic and investment cooperation and connectivity will be the main focus of discussions during Modi's visit. "This is part of the annual summit meetings between the two countries and hence the agenda will focus on all issues of our bilateral relations," Kumar said.
India has a lot of expectations from Russia
Asked about possible decisions in the energy and defence sectors, Kumar said, "We are working on the documents. Some of these agreements are related to trade and economic relations and also to connectivity and some new areas of scientific and technological research. So I am hopeful that we will get concrete results in many of these areas."
Kumar agreed that the trade imbalance remains a key area that needs attention and the matter is likely to be discussed during the PM's visit. He said the growth in bilateral trade has led to a deficit situation for India.
He expressed hope that some decisions are likely to resolve the issue. "So we will discuss these issues and work on expanding trade in terms of goods as well as volumes. Some of the new areas of exports include agricultural and processed food products, automobile components, engineering goods and pharmaceuticals," Kumar said.
