News Topical, Digital Desk : Following the arrest of Dr. Rohit, the alleged leader of a gang involved in the illegal buying and selling of kidneys and transplants, several shocking facts have emerged. It has been revealed that Rohit, a 12th-grade pass-out from Ghaziabad, who ran the kidney smuggling racket, was also a debauchee. He would escape to hill stations or seaside resorts with the ill-gotten gains from kidneys.
Even after Parul of Muzaffarnagar underwent a kidney transplant at Ahuja Hospital, he traveled to Goa, Manali, and Nainital. There, he spent money lavishly on luxurious hotels and vacations with his girlfriend. Currently, the police's next target is Dr. Afzal Ahmed and Ali, an OT manager and general physician involved in the gang, who carry a reward of 25,000 rupees each.
The police have obtained important clues about both of them. They too may be arrested soon. Gang leader Rohit Tiwari initially attempted to mislead the police about the other gang members and also denied the allegations against him.
However, after being pressed, he revealed that he was originally from Bilgram, Hardoi, and had been living in Ghaziabad since 2016. DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said that OT manager Rajesh Kumar and in-charge Kuldeep Singh, who have been sent to jail, were associates of the gang leader Rohit. They received one lakh rupees and round-trip air tickets for each kidney transplant.
Tickets were booked through a travel agency in Lucknow. However, before going to jail, both accused stated that they received only 40,000 rupees each. Similarly, contradictions were found in Rohit's statement regarding kidney broker Shivam. Rohit stated that he met Shivam in Meerut in 2022, while Shivam claimed to have met Rohit in Delhi while transporting a patient to AIIMS in an ambulance.
Now, the police will attempt to obtain custody remand for Rohit, Shivam, and Rajesh and Kuldeep. Rohit possessed dozens of SIM cards. He only communicated with his girlfriend in Ghaziabad using a personal number. Police found her number in the CDR of his phone calls. When he called her, he was traced.
None of the gang members ever saw Rohit's family. Rohit's wife lives separately with their child at her parents' home in Kannauj, while he lived in his flat with his girlfriend. Police have so far jailed 10 people, including the doctor couple, in the case that came to light on March 30th.
