New Delhi. Famous actress and former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen recently shared an important and strange experience of her life in an interview. Sushmita told that when she was 18 years old, her parents advised her not to use the word physically intimate.

There was a special reason behind this advice. Sushmita's parents were deeply influenced by an article written by Shobha De, who was highly respected among Bengalis.

Parents were upset by an article

Sushmita Sen recently joined actress Riya Chakraborty's podcast. Where she told about this experience of hers. Sushmita Sen said, "At that time society was not as open as it is today. It was like 'yes'. Everything was 'yes' to such an extent that my mother and father had to sit me down and tell me, 'You have a lot on your shoulders and you should control what you are saying. Why are you using the word 'physically intimate' in an interview at the age of 18? Shobha De is writing very bad things about you.' I remember that her name was specifically taken. Bengalis are considered intelligent. The intellectual article written by her was disturbing and promoted gossip."

I wanted to be a free person, not Miss Universe

The actress further revealed that she later spoke to Shobhaa De about this because she wanted to break social norms. Sushmita said, "I deliberately chose this word because what I wanted to be was not 'Miss Universe' or 'the most beautiful person'. I wanted to be a free person, someone who is truly free. In this effort, I became India's first Miss Universe. It was this freedom that allowed me to do all this. Now that I have won this title, everyone is trying to curb that freedom because a lot of responsibility for a lot of things falls on you."
