According to the Korea Times, 173 Koreans, two Thai passengers and six crew members were on board the Jeju Air flight, which departed from Thailand at 1:30 a.m. and was scheduled to land at the airport at 8:30 a.m.
According to the information, the plane initially attempted to land, but could not. After this, it kept circling the airport and tried to land again, but slipped on the runway. After this, the plane hit the wall at the end of the runway and caught fire. The fire was extinguished 43 minutes after the accident.
The accident happened at 9:07 am local time in South Korea
According to KBS World, Korea Airports Corporation and South Jeolla State fire brigade officials said the Jeju Air flight from Thailand, carrying 175 passengers and six flight attendants, was landing at the airport at 9:07 a.m. local time on Sunday when the accident occurred.
Two people were rescued alive from the plane
According to Yonhap news agency, Jeju Airlines flight 2216 was returning from Thailand. According to local authorities, two people have been rescued so far. Passengers are being evacuated from the rear part of the plane. There were a total of 181 people on board the plane. Of these, 175 were passengers and six were flight crew members.
A cloud of black smoke began to rise as soon as the accident occurred
