News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump has claimed he would save millions of lives during a war between India and Pakistan in 2025. He claimed that he threatened to impose 200 percent tariffs on India and that both countries would stop fighting because there is nothing like money.
Speaking at the Board of Peace, Trump also increased the number of jets shot down during the fighting, bringing the number from eight to 11. Trump reiterated that he had called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resolve the conflict, even though India had refused third-party mediation.
Claims to have saved 25 million lives
Trump said the Pakistani PM told our Chief of Staff that President Trump saved 25 million lives by preventing a war between us and India. That war was in full swing. Planes were being shot down. And I spoke with both of them on the phone, and I knew them a little bit.
I knew Prime Minister Modi very well. I called him and said, "Listen, if you guys can't resolve this, I'm not going to do a trade deal with either of you."
Trump was referring to the conflict that followed the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, in which 26 people were killed. In response to the attack, India launched precision strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan under Operation Sindoor.
Shahbaz Sharif calls Trump the messiah of South Asia
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif also praised Trump for mediating the conflict and called him a man of peace and the messiah of the people of South Asia.
India has consistently denied Trump's claims, saying the ceasefire was a mutually agreed upon agreement between the two countries through the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) without any third party intervention.
