Peshawar: The number of people infected with the ampox virus is constantly increasing. The ampox infection is spreading at an alarming rate. India also needs to be cautious about this infection as three patients suffering from the ampox virus have been detected in Pakistan.
Three patients suffering from the Ampox virus have been detected in Pakistan, the health department of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province said on Friday. The patients were diagnosed with the viral infection upon their arrival from the United Arab Emirates, the department said.
Let us tell you that the World Health Organization has declared the virus a public health emergency. Cases of ampox, also known as monkeypox, have been reported in Pakistan before.
The variant has not been detected yet
It was not immediately clear which variant was found in the three patients. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Director General of Health Services Salim Khan said, two patients have been confirmed to have ampox. Samples of the third patient were sent to the National Institute of Health in the capital Islamabad for confirmation.
"All three patients are being isolated," he said. A spokesperson for Pakistan's National Health Ministry said Pakistan has detected a suspected case of 'ampox'. Global health officials on Thursday confirmed a new variant of the 'ampox' virus infection in Sweden.
Public health emergency declared in Africa
Africa's top public health body declared the outbreak a public health emergency on Tuesday. Ampox is spread through close contact. It causes flu-like symptoms, but in most cases can be fatal.
