News Topical, Digital Desk : Ukraine is set to purchase 100 Rafale fighter jets amid a war with Russia, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky announced on Monday that he had signed a deal with France to purchase 100 Rafales, a move he said was part of an effort to strengthen Ukraine's military capabilities to counter Russia.

Zelensky has arrived in Paris

Zelensky arrived in Paris for talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at a time of increased Russian drone and missile attacks on Ukraine. Furthermore, Russian forces are rapidly advancing in Ukraine's Zaporizhia region. Zelensky told reporters that he has ordered 100 Rafale fighter jets.

The Ukrainian president made the announcement after signing the agreement with Macron. Two people familiar with the matter said the Rafale fighter jets would be part of a ten-year strategic aviation agreement for Kyiv. Some of the fighter jets may be supplied directly from the French fleet.

Three killed in Russian missile attack

Three people were killed and ten others, including three teenagers, were injured in a Russian missile strike in the eastern Ukrainian city of Balakliya, Kharkiv region officials said on Monday. They said the attack last night damaged a multi-storey building and destroyed several vehicles.
