Cabinet takes major decision on old age pension

According to a statement, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet has made a major decision regarding old-age pensions in the state. Eligible senior citizens will no longer need to apply separately for the pension.

Social Welfare Minister (Independent Charge) Asim Arun stated that the Family ID "One Family, One Identity" system will automatically identify eligible beneficiaries and, upon their consent, directly approve pensions. Currently, 6.75 million senior citizens are benefiting from this scheme, but a large number remain excluded from pensions due to inability to complete the process. The new decision aims to address this issue.

Pension money will come in Aadhaar linked account

He stated that after receiving consent, the scheme officer will approve the pension through digital signature within 15 days, and the acceptance letter will be mailed to the beneficiary. He explained that payments will be made directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank account, and information about each installment will be available via SMS. He added that the government will also provide a mobile app where beneficiaries can view all their payments, similar to a passbook.

Decision to make tenancy simple and transparent

The state government has also taken a major decision to simplify and make tenancy in the state transparent. The cabinet has approved exemptions from stamp duty and registration fees on lease deeds for a period of up to 10 years. The aim is to encourage both building owners and tenants to prepare and register lease agreements in writing, thereby reducing disputes and effectively implementing the Tenancy Regulation Act.

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna stated that current rules require the registration of tenancy deeds for periods longer than one year. However, most lease agreements are generally oral, or even if written, they are not registered. The state cabinet approved a significant amendment to the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1962, expanding its scope from urban areas to the entire state. Establishments in all districts and rural areas will now be covered by this law. This will bring a greater number of workers under legal protection and ensure their rights are protected.

Labor Minister Anil Rajbhar stated that under the amendment, the Act will now apply to establishments employing 20 or more workers. This will allow smaller establishments to continue their economic activities without additional burden, while employees in larger establishments will receive all the benefits provided under the Act.

The government believes this will further accelerate business activity in the state. The cabinet has made significant changes to the Accountant Service Rules, opening the way for Chainmen to be promoted to the post of Accountant.

Khanna stated that under the Fifth Amendment Rules of 2025, two percent of the total number of Lekhpal positions will now be available to qualified Chainmen on a promotional basis. This is the first time that Chainmen will have the opportunity to advance to the position of Lekhpal outside the direct recruitment system.

Medical college will be constructed in Baghpat

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna announced that the Council of Ministers has approved a proposal to transfer 5.07 hectares of land to the Free Medical Education Department to establish a medical college in Baghpat district on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. This land is located in Meetli village and was owned by the Fisheries Department. The college will be built on the remaining land, excluding the disputed 0.53 hectare portion.
