This  horror comedy film  was released in theaters just last month and was so well-received that it became one of the year's biggest hits. Now, after about a month and a half, the film is set to leave theaters and release on an OTT platform. 

What is the story and cast of Sumathi Valavu?

The film is a Malayalam horror comedy drama film, Sumathi Valavu, directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar and written by Abhilash Pillai. The film stars Arjun Ashokan, Gokul Suresh, Saiju Kurup, Balu Varghese, Malavika Manoj, and Sshivada in pivotal roles.

The film revolves around a road. Set in the 1990s, the story depicts a haunted road in Kalleli village near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, where a spirit named Sumathi wanders. People who pass through it experience strange experiences. The story is inspired by folklore and true events related to the area of ​​the same name in Mayilamudu, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

It was successful at the box office

The two-and-a-half-hour film Sumathi Valavu was released in theaters on August 1st of this year. Reportedly made on a budget of ₹14 crore (approximately $1.4 billion), the film  was a box office  success. According to SACNILC, it grossed around ₹25 crore (approximately$2.5 billion) worldwide. Considering its budget, the film turned a substantial profit.

When and where will the horror-comedy Sumathi Valavu stream?

After hitting theaters, this horror comedy is now set to hit the OTT platform. The film, which has an IMDb rating of 7.7, will stream on the OTT platform Zee5 on September 26, 2025. The film will be available in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi.
