Kiev. The exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine continued for the second day on Saturday. A total of 206 people have been released in two days in this exchange which was mediated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In this process, 103 people from Ukraine have been released while only 103 people from Russia have been released.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that among the released Ukrainian citizens, 82 are soldiers while 21 are officers from other departments and ordinary citizens. While the Russian Defense Ministry has said that the 103 people released are military personnel who were taken captive by the Ukrainian army in a sudden attack in the Kursk region in August.
UAE mediated between the two countries for the eighth time
It is not known where the exchange of prisoners took place. According to UAE's official news agency WAM, this is the eighth time that the UAE has mediated between the two countries and has secured the release of people from both sides.
Zelensky again demanded long range weapons
Russia attacked 12 regions of Ukraine with 76 drones on Friday-Saturday night. Ukraine has claimed to have destroyed 72 of these drones in the sky itself. There is no report of any casualties in this attack by Russia. But five Ukrainian civilians have been killed in shelling by the Russian army in three areas.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has once again demanded long-range weapons from his allied Western countries. He has said that the Ukraine war can be stopped only by reducing Russia's attack capability.
