Many people have the problem of heel pain especially after waking up in the morning. However, it is not a common pain and should not be ignored.

In such a situation, to know more about this heel pain, we spoke to Dr. Hemant Sharma, Director of Orthopedics and Joint Replacement, Maringo Asia Hospitals Gurugram. Along with this, we also tried to know  why there is pain in the heel as soon as one wakes up in the morning  and what are its causes. Apart from this, we also learned what things are important to keep in mind to get relief from it.

Why does heel pain occur?

The doctor said that if you have pain in your heel as soon as you wake up in the morning, then this is not common. The reason behind this could be plantar fasciitis. This is a condition in which the muscles under the sole of the foot become tight. Some of its other symptoms are as follows-

  • Heel pain
  • Pain in the arch of the foot
  • stiff
  • Swelling around the heel
  • tightness in the Achilles tendon

Why does plantar fasciitis happen?

There can be many reasons for plantar fasciitis. Its main reasons include being overweight, doing a lot of standing work, if you are a man, then  the increase in uric acid  can be the reason for this. Apart from this, this problem can also occur in women due to wearing high heels. Also, the most important thing is that tightness of the calf muscle i.e. tightness of the calf muscle can also be the reason for this problem.

How to get relief from this?

Exercise is the best way to get relief from plantar fasciitis. You can do calf muscle stretching for this. However, some people also recommend injections for this, but these injections mostly contain steroids, which should be avoided. Also, if you are overweight, try to reduce your weight. Also, wear footwear that has a soft inner sole.
