KASHASA: At least 129 inmates were killed while trying to escape a main prison in Congo's capital, most of them in a stampede as the prison was overcrowded. The Central African country's Interior Minister Jacquemin Shabani told X that according to preliminary estimates, 24 inmates were killed when security forces fired a warning shot at inmates trying to escape from Makala prison in the capital KASHASA on Monday morning.

59 people were also injured in this incident. They have been admitted to the hospital. Arson was also committed while trying to escape by breaking the jail. Some part of the jail was burnt in this. Now the situation is under control. According to the report of Amnesty International, the capacity of Makala jail is 1500 prisoners. Whereas more than 12 thousand prisoners are kept here.
