Tokyo:  The havoc caused by the Shanshan storm that has been going on for the last several days in Japan is still continuing. The situation has worsened due to heavy rains and landslides in many areas of Japan. It has become impossible for people to come out on the roads. Water has filled up at many places. Many houses and institutions have submerged in water. Due to the 'Shanshan' storm, heavy rains occurred on Sunday in Shizuoka, located 180 kilometers away from the south-west region of the capital Tokyo. This worsened the situation further.

Weather officials warned the storm could last for several days. Typhoon Shanshan packed winds of up to 65 kilometer-per-hour (40 mph) on Thursday, triggering landslides, overflowing rivers, snapping branches and scattering debris. At least six people have died so far from Typhoon Shanshan, including three who were buried by landslides, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported, which compiles data from local governments.

6 dead so far

According to Japanese agencies, so far 6 people have died due to Shanshan, besides 127 people have been injured and one person is missing. Japan Meteorological Agency said that due to the storm, heavy rains occurred in Shizuoka and its surrounding areas. Landslide warning has been issued in parts of Hamamatsu and Izu cities of Shizuoka province and other areas including Yokohama of Tokyo. Tokyo has been generally cloudy in recent days and heavy rains occurred suddenly in some places.
