New Delhi: 45 Indians trapped in the Russian army have been released after the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Indian Foreign Ministry said that 45 Indians have been released from the Russian army and efforts are on to bring back about 50 others soon. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told the media that out of 45 Indians, 35 have been released after Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July.

The issue of Indians recruited in the Russian army has emerged as a deadlock in India-Russia relations. During his visit to Russia in July, PM Modi had strongly raised the issue of early release of Indian citizens serving in the Russian army during his talks with Russian President Putin in Moscow. After this, the Russian President had ordered his army officers to complete this task soon.

Other youths will also return soon

Indian youths were lured to Russia by fraudsters with the offer of good jobs. After that, they were recruited in the Russian army, where they were fighting the war with Ukraine. When many Indian youths shared their videos and expressed their pain, the issue reached Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After this, an initiative was started to free them. Jaiswal said that six Indians returned two days ago and many others will return home soon. Jaiswal said, "More than 50 Indian citizens are still working in the Russian army, for whom we are trying to release them as much as possible.
