News Topical, Digital Desk : Delhi World Book Fair 2026: Children are thrilled the moment they step aboard the Kids Express at the Children's Pavilion. Its size and design make them feel like they're actually inside a train. The Children's Pavilion, located in Hall No. 6 of the Bharat Mandapam in Delhi from January 10-18, is particularly appealing to children, who are enjoying a variety of free hands-on activities.
Based on the concept of train travel, the Kids Express is a vibrant and engaging world where thousands of children join each day on a journey of imagination, creativity, and discovery. Its vibrant purple color, animated windows, and charming illustrations of a ticket checker, a tea seller, a musician, and children engrossed in books are sure to captivate. Its engine-shaped entrance, emitting steam-like bubbles, welcomes little ones. NBT-India's Selfie Points, Vidya and Gyan, invite them on this journey.
The coaches are as attractive as the entrance.
The train's interiors are as captivating as the entrance. Each coach is thoughtfully designed to inspire reading, thinking, creating, and feeling. The journey begins with the "Storytime Shatabdi," a reading corner flanked by a space-themed wall that reads "Read Beyond the Stars." Rocket-shaped bookshelves are filled with stories that invite young readers to soar to new worlds.
Learning through art and play
The Rail Museum also displays a steam engine and a model train of the modern Vande Bharat. A miniature photo exhibition narrates the story of the evolution of Indian Railways. Interactive screens offer children opportunities to participate in quizzes, puzzles, and Sudoku. Winners are rewarded with book coupons. The Readers Club Movement coach introduces children to NBT's Readers Club Bulletin and Pathak Manch Bulletin, which feature poems, articles, and artwork written by young readers from across the country.
These encourage the habit of reading and writing from an early age. Inspired by railway book stalls, 'Kitaab Ghar' is home to a creative world where stories and poems are written on hanging sheets. Children complete unfinished stories, write poems, and design book covers. It's a wonderfully creative world where they can express their imagination. Nearby, 'Emoji Me' helps children understand emotions through colors and art.
The "Click-Me Junction" underwater-themed photo corner is particularly appealing, where families capture memorable moments. Other compartments host workshops on Madhubani and Warli art, paper puppetry, clay art, and arts and crafts. Children are enthusiastically participating in these events.
Training for teachers and parents
In the evening, teachers, academics and parents gather for the 'Training the Trainers' programme, where workshops, group discussions and librarians' meets are organised on toy-based learning, play-based learning, mathematics through play, mental health in the classroom and creative teaching tools.
All in all, Kids Express is an exciting, vibrant world where books aren't just read, they're lived, stories aren't just told, they're created in the imagination, and learning is intertwined with the joy of play. It's a journey from which every child returns with curiosity, confidence, and wonder, something unique and extraordinary.
