Demand for CBI investigation made in the petition
The petition, related to the cough syrup case, has demanded a court-monitored inquiry and the formation of a National Judicial Commission or an expert committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge .
In this PIL, it was said that all the pending cases related to the deaths of children due to this poisonous cough syrup in different states of the country and its investigation should be handed over to the CBI.
This argument was given in the PIL
The petition filed in the Supreme Court states that accountability is fragmented due to investigations being conducted across different states, leading to repeated lapses. This is the reason dangerous drugs are entering the market.
The petition was filed following the deaths of several children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan after consuming Coldrif cough syrup. The petition seeks to direct the central government to identify the regulatory lapses that allowed substandard medicines to reach the market.
