News Topical, Digital Desk : Every morning and evening, we burn incense, agarbatti, or havan materials in our home temple. The smoke from these burns dispels negativity, but what should be done with the ashes left after the puja is over? People often dismiss it as ordinary waste and throw it in the sink or dustbin. But did you know that even this ash contains the positive energy of the puja and a part of the gods?

Religious and spiritual significance of ashes

According to religious beliefs and scriptures, the ashes of havan or incense are considered "bhasma." Throwing them in an inappropriate place is considered a direct insult to the gods and goddesses. One should never allow the ashes of worship to fall under one's feet, as this can diminish the happiness and prosperity of the home and may also create Vastu defects.

Where should the puja ashes be immersed?

According to astrology , there are specific rules for immersing puja ashes. If there is a sacred river or body of water near your home, it is best to immerse them in the water. However, if this is not possible, religious gurus recommend disposing of the ashes in a flower pot or other clean soil. Especially, disposing of the ashes at the root of a Tulsi plant or a Peepal tree is considered auspicious, as it retains its sacredness there.

Do not make these mistakes even by mistake

According to the Puranas and astrology , incense ashes should never be thrown into a drain or dirty area. Doing so can increase the negative effects of Rahu and Ketu. If you are placing the ashes under a tree, make sure it is not a thorny plant. Always choose fruit-bearing or sacred trees.

Some special ways to make good use of ashes:

Applying pure ash of havan on the forehead as a tilak keeps the mind calm.

By adding it to plants, not only does devotion remain intact, but it also acts as a natural fertilizer.

If you cannot immerse it immediately, collect it and keep it in an earthen pot or box.
