What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is a disease in which a person feels extremely tired. This fatigue is so much that a person is unable to do his daily work or sometimes it becomes difficult to even get up from the bed. This fatigue is not cured even by rest or sleep. Sometimes it increases further after doing physical or mental work. This disease is also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease (SEID).

  • Fatigue that lasts 6 months or more and doesn't improve with rest
  • Insomnia or frequent sleep disturbances
  • Headache
  • Pain in joints and muscles
  • Difficulty thinking, paying attention, remembering, and focusing
  • Blurred vision
  • Night sweats or chills
  • swollen lymph nodes in the neck or armpits
  • Stomach problems like gas, constipation, or diarrhea

  • This disease is more prevalent in women
  • People between the ages of 40 and 60 are at higher risk
  • This disease can be genetic

There is no sure cure for CFS, but its symptoms can be controlled by medicines, good sleeping habits and adopting a correct lifestyle. If you are having fatigue and sleep problems without any reason for a long time, then you should immediately consult a doctor.
