Kolkata: Despite the Supreme Court's appeal to withdraw the strike, Bengal's Junior Doctors Front will not withdraw its agitation. The junior doctors of the state, who have been on strike for the last 14 days, have declared to continue their strike until justice is served in protest against the rape and murder of their female colleague doctor in RG Kar Hospital.
What did the Supreme Court say?
Meanwhile, in view of the Supreme Court's appeal, the junior doctors sitting on strike at RG Kar Hospital continued to hold continuous meetings here to discuss the withdrawal of the strike. Earlier, during the hearing in the RG case on Thursday, the Supreme Court had appealed to the protesting doctors to withdraw the strike and assured them that no adverse action would be taken against them after returning to work.
Health services remained affected for the 14th consecutive day
After the appeal and assurance of the Supreme Court, the doctors of Delhi X announced to end their strike on Thursday evening, which was continuing for 11 days, in protest against the RG Kar incident. On the other hand, due to the strike, health services in the government hospitals of Bengal remained affected for the 14th consecutive day on Thursday. Junior doctors boycotted work in protest against the incident.
The agitating doctors continued their agitation despite the state government transferring three KMCH officials and cancelling the appointment of former RG Kar Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh to the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CNMC).
What did the protesting doctors say?
One of the protesting doctors said that our agitation will continue because only a few of our demands have been met. The main demand of justice for our sister is still pending. Earlier, the Bengal government bowed to the demands of the junior doctors protesting against the incident and removed three senior officials of Kolkata Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday night.
