New Delhi.  BJP Bengal Bandh  : Everything is going to be at a standstill for 12 hours in Bengal today. BJP has called for a Bengal bandh and has said that there will be a protest against the Mamata government. In fact, the students had carried out a 'Nabanna Abhijan' till the state secretariat in Kolkata yesterday. Today, BJP has called for a strike in Bengal in protest against the forceful action of the police during this.

12 hour shutdown

The BJP has called for a Bengal bandh from 6 am to 6 pm today. The protesters were attempting to reach 'Nabanna' to demand the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the alleged rape-murder case of a doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9.

During this time, lathicharge was done on those protesters, water cannons and tear gas shells were fired. BJP says that this protest was peaceful, but forceful action was taken against the protesters without any reason.

Several student organisations on Tuesday staged protests in various parts of Kolkata and Howrah against the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College.

Clashes were seen between the police and the protesters in this demonstration. Actually, the protesters had tried to jump over the barricades to march towards the West Bengal Secretariat 'Nabanna'.

The BJP has announced a Bengal bandh today to protest this police action. The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has termed the BJP's call for a strike as an attempt to create anarchy.

The BJP has requested trade organisations to keep markets closed during the bandh. Though there has been no official statement from the market committees about the bandh, public transport services are expected to be disrupted. Emergency services will continue to run as normal. Government offices, banks, schools and colleges are expected to remain open despite the bandh.

Police have arrested over 200 people in connection with the Nabanna Abhijana rally.

29 policemen were injured in the clashes that took place yesterday. According to news agency PTI, 126 members of the West Bengal Students Union have been arrested. 

Yesterday, Kolkata Police used lathicharge, tear gas shells and water cannons to disperse the protesters. At the same time, it is alleged that the protesters threw stones at the security forces and tried to break the barricades to reach the state secretariat. 

The police action began when BJP supporters attempted to break police barricades to enter Lal Bazar.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar, who was leading the march, fell ill after coming in contact with tear gas and later left the spot. 

Mamata with criminals- On the other hand, taking a dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, JP Nadda said that the pictures of police arbitrariness from Kolkata have angered everyone who values ​​democratic principles.
