News Topical, Digital Desk : The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in the coastal areas of Goa, Kerala and Karnataka for Monday (June 16). Heavy rains are expected in these areas. Low-lying areas may get flooded. People have been asked to be prepared for this. At the same time, strong winds are expected along with light rain in Chhattisgarh and Odisha. There are chances of lightning along with thunder here. In such a situation, people are advised not to stop under big trees during the rain. Heavy rains are likely to continue in Uttarakhand for the next one week. In view of this, an orange alert has been issued in the state.

Most districts of Kerala have been receiving torrential rains since Sunday. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast that heavy to very heavy rains will continue in the state till June 18. On Monday, a red alert has been declared for five districts, while an orange alert has been issued for six.

In view of the possibility of heavy rains, the district collectors of Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Idukki, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta and Kasargod in Kerala have declared a holiday in all educational institutions in the districts on Monday. Alappuzha District Collector has declared a holiday in Kuttanad taluka. Apart from these districts, a yellow alert has been issued for the capital Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of high waves of 3.1 meters to 3.4 meters in the coastal areas of Kerala and Mahi. Fishermen have been advised not to go to these sea areas till June 18.

Light rain likely in Delhi

The Meteorological Department has issued an 'orange' alert for northwest, southwest and southeast Delhi and has forecast light to moderate rain with thundershowers and wind speed ranging from 40 to 50 kmph to 60 kmph. People got relief from the scorching heat due to rain in Delhi on Sunday morning. The maximum temperature in Delhi on Sunday was 41.8 degrees Celsius, which is 1.9 degrees above normal. The IMD said that 42 mm of rain was recorded in the capital on Sunday morning. It said that 33.5 mm of rain was recorded at Safdarjung Center, 32 mm at Lodhi Road and 27.5 mm at Pusa Center. Officials said that power supply was disrupted in some areas due to rain. According to the IMD, rain occurred with lightning between 2.30 am and 4.30 am.

The IMD says that thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rain and wind speed of 50-60 kmph are likely till Monday evening. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday are likely to be around 37 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's air quality was recorded in the "satisfactory" category at 4 pm on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 62.

 

Varanasi is the hottest city

On June 15, Varanasi was the hottest city in the country. The maximum temperature here was recorded at 43.2 degrees. Apart from this, the mercury crossed 40 degrees in Orai and Ghazipur. Bathinda in Punjab, Sirsa in Haryana, Sidhi in Madhya Pradesh and Churu in Rajasthan were the hottest districts. The maximum temperature in all these districts was between 41 and 42 degrees.
