News Topical,Digital Desk : Bangladesh's radical Islamist group Hefazat-e-Islam has threatened that if the proposals made by the Women's Affairs Reform Commission are implemented, interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus will meet the same fate as former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

According to local media, the Islamist organisation issued this warning to the interim government in various protest rallies and marches held across the country and termed the commission's proposals as anti-Islamic. The Hefazat leader, who is demanding the abolition of the commission, announced that the organisation will hold a mass rally at Dhaka's Suhrawardy Udyan on May 3.

Radical Islamic organization took out a protest rally

On Friday, the organisation also held a protest rally and procession in Andarkil in Chittagong, according to a report in The Business Standard. Later, addressing a public gathering at Chashara Central Shaheed Minar in Narayanganj, Hefazat joint general secretary Mamunul Haque said the Women's Reform Commission has shown complete disregard for Islamic law by saying that religious and social norms are the main reason for discrimination against women in the country.

Ahmed Abdul Qadir, general secretary of Khilafat Majlis, another hardline Islamist political party, said the commission proposed a uniform family law for women of all religions - covering marriage, divorce, inheritance and maintenance. This is directly against the Quran and Sunnah and is a blatant attack on the faith of Muslims. We will never accept such anti-Islam activities.

It is noteworthy that last week the Women's Affairs Reform Commission submitted its report, which included 433 recommendations. According to a report by 'The Daily Star', earlier this week, Hefazat-e-Islam and Jamaat-e-Islami, Islami Andolan Bangladesh and other radical Islamic organizations demanded the government to immediately cancel the unacceptable and controversial recommendations of the commission.
