A strong earthquake struck Southern California in the US on Monday morning. The magnitude of this earthquake was 5.2, people were terrified by the tremors. Due to the earthquake, stones started falling on the roads in rural areas outside San Diego. Also, things started falling down from shelves and walls. The good thing is that there is no news of loss of life or property due to this earthquake. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the quake struck at 10:08 a.m. local time and was epicentered in San Diego County, just a few miles (4 kilometers) from Julian.

 

"I thought the windows would break"

Also, many small tremors were felt after this earthquake. Paul Nelson, the owner of a gold mine that operated in Julian in the 1870s, has shared his statement regarding the earthquake. He said, 'I thought the windows of the house would break because they were shaking a lot, but it didn't happen. He said that the photo frames kept on the counter fell down due to the vibration. But there was no damage to the tunnels that could be seen by tourists. Nelson further said that on Sunday, about two dozen tourists were touring the closed mine when a small earthquake occurred, but everyone remained calm.

Meanwhile, Captain Thomas Shoots of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, San Diego County, told about the earthquake that when the ground started shaking, school children were evacuated from the buildings as a precaution. They got a vibration alert and then they started feeling things rolling and colliding. He said, 'There was a lot of commotion and bustle all around. But thankfully, everything is back to normal now.'

 

The California Department of Transportation in San Diego County said teams were inspecting roads to determine if there was any damage.
