We welcome the order of the Supreme Court with utmost respect. Our mission and focus will remain on the rescue, rehabilitation and care of animals. We will provide full cooperation to the Special Investigation Team and continue our work with integrity, keeping the welfare of animals at the center of all our efforts. We request that this process be allowed to happen without any speculation and in the best interest of the animals we serve. 

Vantara will cooperate in SIT investigation

After the SIT was formed, Vantara Zoological Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre on Tuesday said the organisation will cooperate and continue to rescue and rehabilitate animals. Vantara said the organisation will abide by the law. 

An investigation was demanded in the petition

In fact, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the transfer of temple elephant 'Mahadevi' from Kolhapur to Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust in Vantara Sanctuary in Jamnagar. The petition demanded that the Vantara Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Jamnagar, Gujarat be investigated. The court has formed a 10-member SIT to investigate this matter. 

The next hearing of the case will be on September 15

Let us tell you that on Monday, the apex court constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Justice Jasti Chelameshwar to conduct a fact-finding inquiry into the allegations of illegal acquisition and mistreatment of animals at Vantara Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. A bench of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Prasanna B. Varale directed the Special Investigation Team to complete its investigation and submit the report by September 12. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for September 15. 

The apex court said the four-member Special Investigation Team will also investigate and report on issues such as compliance with wildlife protection laws, international trade rules, animal welfare standards and environmental concerns.
