Prayagraj: Allahabad High Court has sought information from the state government and district administration by September 10 on the PIL filed demanding provision of clean and sufficient water in the Ganga for devotees and saints in Maha Kumbh 2025. It has been asked how clean and sufficient water will be made available in the Ganga?

This order has been given by the division bench of Chief Justice Arun Bhasali and Justice Vikas while hearing the PIL of advocate Sunita Sharma, senior social worker Yogendra Kumar Pandey and former councilor Kamlesh Singh.

It is said in the petition that the government and the district administration have not yet taken any action towards providing clean and sufficient Ganga water. Advocates Vijay Chandra Srivastava and Priyanka Srivastava argued on behalf of the petitioner.

UP government is busy preparing for Maha Kumbh

According to the PIL, lakhs of devotees, Ganga devotees and saints come to Prayagraj from the country and abroad. The government and administration are preparing in full swing for the Maha Kumbh Mela. A lot of budget has been approved by the government, but till now no decision has been taken regarding how sufficient and clean Ganga water will be made available to the devotees, saints and Ganga devotees during the Maha Kumbh.

It has also been said that sufficient and clean Ganga water for bathing and worship in Maha Kumbh will be possible only when the points raised in Sunita Sharma's old PIL are complied with. These include stopping the water of Kanpur's tannery, releasing 4000 cusecs of water daily in Ganga during the bathing festival and closing the dirty drains falling into Ganga-Yamuna, stopping construction 500 meters from the highest flood point on the banks of Ganga and fully complying with the order of smooth operation of STP.

Principal Secretary, Commissioner and DM of Prayagraj, Kumbh Mela Authority, Prayagraj Development Authority and Municipal Corporation have been made parties to the petition.
