News Topical, Digital Desk : The fast of Utpanna Ekadashi holds special significance in Hinduism, as it is not only a day of worship of Lord Vishnu, but also a festival marking the incarnation of Goddess Ekadashi. This Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha of the month of Margashirsha is special because this date is considered to be the beginning of all Ekadashi fasts in Hinduism. According to the Hindu calendar, this year Utpanna Ekadashi (Utpanna Ekadashi 2025 Date) will be celebrated on November 15, so let us know the secret of the birth of Goddess Ekadashi.

Why did Goddess Ekadashi incarnate?

According to mythology, Goddess Ekadashi was born from the body of Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the universe. The reason behind her birth was the powerful demon Mura. In the Satyayuga, there was a very cruel demon named Mura who, with his power, defeated the gods and took control of heaven. Troubled by this, all the gods went to Lord Shiva, who then asked them to go to Lord Vishnu.

Hearing the pleas of the gods, Lord Vishnu fought a fierce battle with the demon Mura for many years. When the Lord grew tired of the battle, he retired to a cave in the Himalayas to rest and entered into yogic sleep.

The secret of descent

The demon Mura, seeing Lord Vishnu asleep, attempted to attack him. Then, from the radiance of Lord Vishnu's body, a divine and radiant girl (Birth of Goddess Ekadashi) was born. With her immense power, this girl challenged the demon Mura and fought him. With her strength, she severed Mura's head from his body, thus preventing Lord Vishnu's yogic sleep from being disturbed.

There is a special connection with this date

When Lord Vishnu woke up, he found Mura dead and was delighted with the girl's bravery. Lord Vishnu granted her a boon, saying, "You were born from my body on the Ekadashi day of the dark fortnight of the month of Margashirsha, and therefore you will be named Ekadashi." He also declared that from today on, anyone who observes a fast on this date and worships you along with me will be forgiven of all their sins and attain salvation.

That is why it is called Utpanna Ekadashi.

This is why the Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Margashirsha is called Utpanna Ekadashi (Significance of Ekadashi Vrat) , because it was on this day that the goddess Ekadashi was born. It is considered the first and most important of all the 24 Ekadashis.
