News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid the turbulent situation in neighboring Bangladesh, dense fog has increased security challenges along the India-Bangladesh border. In response, strict security measures have been put in place along the 549-kilometer-long border in Bengal's Cooch Behar district. The Border Security Force (BSF) has issued a high alert for the entire region.
Surveillance from watch towers has been tightened
Patrolling has been increased, and surveillance has been strengthened with night-vision cameras and watchtowers. Infiltrators and smugglers may take advantage of the fog in border areas like Mekhliganj and Chengrabandha. Barbed wire fencing has not yet been completed in many places, further increasing the risk.
BSF officials say that cattle smuggling and illegal infiltration attempts increase during winter, taking advantage of the fog. Therefore, no laxity is being spared in security. Special vigilance is being maintained at the immigration checkpoint and the Teenbigha Corridor. Passport-holding passengers transit through this area, while the Teenbigha Corridor is crucial for the Bangladeshi enclave.
North Bengal Frontier officials said that troop strength has been increased and intelligence networks are active. Security along such borders is always tight. Despite natural obstacles like fog, we are leaving no stone unturned. Drones, night vision devices, and additional patrols are being deployed to monitor every activity.
Hotels in Malda shut their doors for Bangladeshis
According to a Malda correspondent, hotels in Malda have been closed to Bangladeshis in protest against the attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. The Malda Hotel Owners Association has issued a directive to this effect. Until now, hotels here used to accommodate Bangladeshis arriving on medical or student visas, but this practice is being completely discontinued.
Krishnendu Chowdhury, president of the Malda Hotel Owners Association, said, "Passports and visas are not being issued there, so we have stopped providing hotel rooms to Bangladeshis. We are concerned about the situation in Bangladesh." Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) has doubled patrols along the India-Bangladesh border. The number of soldiers on the border has also been increased.
