News Topical, Digital Desk : Hindu scriptures contain many mythological tales that both astonish and convey a message. Today, we'll tell you one such tale, according to which a demon born from Lord Shiva's power grew so powerful that a trick had to be used to destroy him. Let's explore this fascinating story.

What is mythology

According to legend, once Lord Shiva became furious with Kamadeva. To prevent his anger from consuming the entire world, he poured his rage into the ocean. From the ocean emerged a child whose cry was so loud that it deafened the entire world. Brahma then took the child into his lap. He named him Jalandhar.

Married to Vrinda

Jalandhar grew up to become a powerful demon and married Vrinda. Vrinda was a devoted wife, which further enhanced Jalandhar's powers. Despite being the daughter of a demon, Vrinda was a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu. Inflamed by his pride in his powers, he desired to possess Parvati. This led to a fierce battle between Lord Shiva and Jalandhar. However, due to Vrinda's devotion to her husband, Shiva found it difficult to defeat her.

Lord Vishnu took this form

Lord Vishnu devised a plan and assumed the form of Jalandhara. In this form, he approached Vrinda, and she began treating him like a husband. This violated Vrinda's devotion to her husband, and Mahadeva overpowered Jalandhara and killed him. Upon learning of this, Vrinda immolated herself, and a Tulsi plant grew from her ashes. Thus, Vrinda came to be worshipped as Tulsi.
