News Topical, Digital Desk : Diwali is a festival of joy and light. During this time, we indulge in a lot of sweets, stay up late, burst firecrackers, and indulge in unhealthy foods. Furthermore, the weather changes rapidly after Diwali, shifting from heat to cold. Pollution levels also increase significantly during this time. All these factors can weaken our immunity, and when immunity weakens, problems like colds, flu, fatigue, and weakness quickly take hold.

In such a situation, it's important that we pay special attention to our health after Diwali. Especially for those with already weakened immunity, such as the elderly, children, or those who frequently suffer from colds and flu. So, let's explore what those with weakened immunity should consider when the weather suddenly changes after Diwali.

1. Adopt Ayurvedic remedies – Ayurveda mentions many natural herbs and home remedies that strengthen the body from within, such as Ashwagandha, which helps reduce stress and strengthen the immune system. Tulsi also provides strength to fight bacteria and viruses. Amla is a rich source of vitamin C, which provides energy and maintains proper digestion. Consuming herbal teas, decoctions, or Ayurvedic drinks made from these herbs daily can be very beneficial. These cleanse the body internally, improve the digestive system, and reduce inflammation.

2. Detoxify the body – After festive meals, toxins accumulate in the body. It's important to flush them out to maintain immunity. To detoxify, drink fresh fruit juices like pomegranate, orange, or carrot juice. Eat green vegetables like spinach, fenugreek, and bathua daily. Include turmeric, ginger, and garlic as natural detox agents. Detoxification helps the body feel lighter, clears the skin, and improves digestion.

3. Maintain strong digestion -  Digestion is the body's true strength. Weak digestion can lead to poor nutrient absorption, and immunity declines. Drink warm water or herbal tea to boost digestion. Use spices like asafoetida, cumin, and ginger in your food. Avoid cold, stale, and fried foods.

4. Boost immunity with meditation and yoga - Stress is a major factor in weakening immunity these days. The hectic Diwali season often leads to fatigue and sleep deprivation. Therefore, it's crucial to practice meditation and yoga for 10-15 minutes daily. Meditation reduces stress, promotes better sleep, provides mental peace, and strengthens the immune system. Meditation and yoga also improve the respiratory system, which is crucial during colds and coughs.

5. Try home remedies - Drinking turmeric water or amla juice on an empty stomach in the morning acts as an immunity shot. This improves digestion and helps the body absorb nutrients easily. Homemade shots can be made by mixing turmeric, warm water, and honey. Alternatively, you can make a decoction of ginger, lemon, black pepper, and honey. Drinking these daily helps the body fight illness.

6. Keep your body active – People often become lethargic after Diwali, especially as the cold weather sets in. However, the body needs movement. Therefore, take at least a 30-minute walk daily, do some light exercise or yoga, and stay active with household chores. Staying active improves blood circulation, reduces inflammation, and improves immune function.

7. Eat foods rich in antioxidants - Antioxidants protect the body's cells from damage. They fight free radicals and strengthen immunity. Good sources include berries, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds, fruits, and vegetables like carrots, beets, and broccoli. Include these in your daily diet.
