News Topical, Digital Desk : Himachal Pradesh News: The visually impaired unemployed people who have been fighting for their demands for the last 581 days in Shimla became violent again on Tuesday. They blocked the road outside the state secretariat. Due to this, the movement of vehicles on the Shimla route came to a halt and there is a jam in the entire Shimla. Although the number of visually impaired people is around two dozen, but it is becoming a headache for the police to remove them from the road.

Shobhu Ram, president of the Blind Association, said that their demands are being continuously ignored by the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu government. Social Justice Minister Dhaniram Shandil had assured a meeting with the Chief Secretary by May 15 on April 21, but no initiative was taken regarding their employment. The protesters have been sitting on a dharna at the Chota Shimla bus stop near the Secretariat since March 27. On Tuesday morning, they suddenly sat on the road and started shouting slogans against the government.

Demonstration demanding backlog posts

Secretary of the association Rajesh Thakur said that the backlog posts under the visually impaired quota in various departments of the state government have been lying vacant for years, and they are demanding that these posts be filled in one go. He alleged that when they protest, the government assures them of talks, but no concrete action is taken later. The protesters warned that the Chakka Jam will continue until the Chief Minister or the Chief Secretary comes to meet them.

It is worth mentioning that the Association of the Visually Handicapped has been sitting on a dharna in Shimla for a long time regarding their demands. They are demanding the government to fill the vacant posts of the backlog quota in one go. They also say that the government is not filling the posts of their quota after 1995, even though the Supreme Court has also given orders for recruitment.
