News Topical, Digital Desk : In the first trading session of June 2025, the market closed higher from the day's lows. Buying was seen in midcap and smallcap stocks. Nifty Bank closed higher for the fourth consecutive day with record levels. On the sectoral front, buying was seen in realty, PSU bank, FMCG stocks. Pressure was seen on metal, IT and oil & gas stocks.

After a smart recovery in the second half of the session, the market closed almost at the day's highs. The midcap index saw an improvement of about 600 points or 1% from the day's low.

At what level did the market close? After a full day's work on Monday, the Nifty closed 34 points lower at 24,717. The Sensex closed 77 points lower at 81,374. Nifty Bank saw a gain of 154 points and the index closed at 55,903. The Nifty Midcap index closed 356 points higher at 57,776. 

Which stocks saw action throughout the day? The effect of the doubling of tariffs on steel and aluminum by the Donald Trump administration was seen on metal stocks. These stocks closed lower. Mphasis closed 3% lower after the news of the departure of a major client. Hero Moto closed down 2% and Tata Motors closed down 1% after lower-than-expected sales figures for May. M&M closed with a gain of 1% after better-than-expected sales figures. Nykaa was the weakest stock in midcaps. Brokerage firms have given mixed commentary on this stock after the results. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders closed down 3% after an update on earnings growth guidance for FY26. IRCON International closed with a gain of 2% after receiving an EPC order from East Central Railway. Genus Power closed up 6% and Purvanakara closed down 8% after its fourth quarter results. Spandana closed down 7% after disbursements fell 91% year-on-year and 75% quarter-on-quarter. The company's interest income also saw a decline of 48%. Schloss Bangalore (The Leela)'s listing remained sluggish and the stock closed close to the issue price on the first day. At the same time, despite being listed at a discount in Aegis Vopak, it closed with a gain of 3% on the first day.
