News Topical, Digital Desk : Al Waleed bin Khalid, popularly known as the Sleeping Prince of Saudi Arabia, died at the age of 36. He was in coma for the last 20 years after a car accident in London in 2005. He was born in April 1990.

Prince Al Waleed was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, a member of the Saudi royal family, and nephew of billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. At the age of 15, while studying at a military college in Britain, he was involved in a tragic road accident which left him with severe head injuries and internal bleeding and he was in a coma ever since.

Doctors from America and Spain treated the patient

Prince Waleed bin Khalid was treated by specialists from the US and Spain, but he never fully regained consciousness. After the accident, he was taken to King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, where he remained on life support systems under constant medical care for nearly two decades.

Prince Waleed spent most of the last 20 years in a coma. However, sometimes his movements gave a ray of hope and for this reason his father Prince Khalid bin Talal publicly rejected the suggestions of removing the life support system. Believing in God, he continued to get his son treated. He was hopeful that one day his son would definitely get well.

Father issued a statement on son's death

Confirming his demise, Prince Khalid said in a statement: "With profound sadness and grief, with full faith in Allah's decree and destiny, we mourn the passing of our beloved son Prince Al-Walid bin Khalid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today by the mercy of Allah."
