News Topical, Digital Desk : According to the Hindu calendar, the Sakat Chauth fast is observed on the Chaturthi of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Magh. It is known as Sankat Chauth or Tilkuta Chauth. This year, this holy fast will be observed on January 6 (Sakat Chauth 2026 Kab Hai?) . This fast is primarily observed by mothers for the long life and good health of their children, and to remove obstacles in their lives. Sakat Chauth is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, but any worship is considered incomplete without the full blessings of the Shiva family. Therefore, on this day, offer some special items to Lord Ganesha as well as the Shivalinga. Doing so removes all difficulties related to children.

Bilva leaves and Shami leaves

Lord Shiva loves Bilva leaves, and Lord Ganesha loves Shami leaves. Therefore, on Sakat Chauth, offer 11 Bilva leaves and 11 Shami leaves to the Shivalinga. Doing so reduces your child's anger and gives them the wisdom to move forward in the right direction.

Milk and black sesame seeds

Anoint the Shivalinga with raw milk and black sesame seeds. If your child frequently falls ill, it will relieve them of their illness and ward off the evil eye. This remedy also acts as a protective shield.

sugarcane juice

Offering sugarcane juice on Shivling on the day of Sakat Chauth removes financial obstacles and career hurdles in the child's life.

Durva garland

On Sakat Chauth, offer 21 Durva (sunflower) garlands to a Ganesha idol near a Shivalinga, or to the Shivalinga itself. Doing so sharpens your child's intellect and helps you succeed in competitive exams.

Important rules of Sakat Chauth fast (Sakat Chauth 2026 Rituals)

  • Significance of Chandra Darshan (sight of the moon) - This fast is not considered complete until the moon is offered water at night. Milk and sesame seeds must be mixed into the water for the offering.
  • Tilkuta (Tilkuta) offering - On this day, Tilkuta, a prasad made from sesame seeds and jaggery, is prepared. Donating it and consuming it as a fruit is considered auspicious.
  • Katha Path - Listening to the story of Sakat Mata and Ganesh Ji is an important part of this fast.
