The Maharashtra government's Urban Development Department has issued an official letter in this regard. A reservation lottery will be held to determine the mayoral reservations for the state's 29 municipal corporations.

The lottery will be held on Thursday (January 22, 2026) at 11:00 am in the Council Hall of the Ministry. The Urban Development Minister will preside over the process, and relevant officials have been instructed to be present. The BJP performed well in this civic election, breaking into the strongholds of the Thackeray and Pawar families. In the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the BJP won 89 seats. The BMC has 227 wards and is the richest municipal body in the country. By winning the BMC elections, the BJP ended the Thackeray family's nearly three-decade-long dominance.

In the BMC elections, the BJP won 89 seats, while its ally Shinde's Shiv Sena won 29. Together, the two parties won 118 seats. The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) won 65 seats. Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) won 6 seats. The Congress, which contested the elections in alliance with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), won 24 seats, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won 8 seats, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 3 seats, the Samajwadi Party won 2 seats, and Sharad Pawar's party won just one seat.
