News Topical, Digital Desk : As Raksha Bandhan approaches, the markets are decorated with colourful rakhis, sweets and gifts. Sisters choose beautiful rakhis for their brothers, and brothers also prepare special gifts for their sisters.

On this day, sisters tie a protective thread (Rakhi) on their brothers' wrists, apply tilak, feed them sweets and pray for their happy future. In return, brothers promise to protect them throughout their lives.

Rules for tying Rakhi

Three knots in Rakhi: A symbol of faith and protection

  • There is a tradition of tying three knots while tying a Rakhi, which has a deep spiritual meaning attached to it.
  • The first knot is dedicated to Lord Brahma, who is considered the creator of the universe. This knot is considered a symbol of auspicious beginning of life and positive energy.
  • The second knot is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the nurturing god. It brings balance and stability in life.
  • The third knot is dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is the destroyer of evil and guide to salvation. This knot signifies protection from evil forces in life and protection from wrong deeds.
  • With these three knots the Rakhi is no longer just a thread but becomes a divine blessing and protective shield.

Keep the direction in mind while tying Rakhi

  • It is also considered auspicious to keep in mind the direction while tying Rakhi on the day of Raksha Bandhan.
  • The brother's face should be towards the east.
  • The sister's face should be towards the west.
  • By doing this, both get auspicious results and positive energy remains in the relationship.

Recite this mantra while tying Raksha Sutra -

“Yen Baddho Bali Raja, Danavendro Mahabalah.

"Ten Twam Commititnami, Rakshe Machal Machalah."

The meaning of this mantra is that I tie this thread to protect you with the same sacred protective thread that protected the mighty King Bali. May this thread protect you from every danger and keep you safe always.
