News Topical, Digital Desk : This time, the monsoon in North India seems to be less kind and more wreaking havoc. Especially in Himachal Pradesh, the effect of continuous heavy rains is now clearly visible in Delhi's biggest fruit and vegetable market Azadpur. The supply of vegetables like tomatoes, capsicum, cauliflower has been badly affected.

Green vegetables became costlier by 30%

The main vegetables coming from Himachal, tomatoes, peas, cabbage are now reaching the market in less quantity. As a result, their prices have jumped by 20 to 30 percent in the last two-three days.

The supply of vegetables like ladyfinger, torai and coriander has slowed down due to the end of the season from the farms of Delhi and Haryana. The effect of inflation in vegetables is seen most on the purchase of tomatoes, which are once again being bought in quarters and its prices are continuously increasing again.

Rain, water in fields and transport increased the problem

Due to rain in Himachal and Delhi as well as waterlogging in the fields of Uttar Pradesh and delay in harvesting, the supply of vegetables has been affected. Apart from this, prices have also increased due to increased transportation cost. Due to this, the prices of other green vegetables like Ridge gourd and ladyfinger are also increasing. Which is directly affecting the budget of the common man's kitchen and the vegetables served in the plate.

Vegetables became expensive due to transportation cost of Karnataka and Maharashtra

To meet the shortage of tomatoes, Delhi now has to depend on cities like Bangalore and Pune. Cabbage and capsicum are being supplied from Sangli in Maharashtra, but the long journey and increasing transport cost is making these vegetables expensive.

However, to provide some relief to the general public, the National Cooperative Consumer Federation (NCCF) has started selling tomatoes at the rate of Rs 48 per kg in Delhi, due to which the price remains stable despite the reduced supply of tomatoes.

But experts say that until the supply from the hill states returns to normal, it is difficult to expect stability in vegetable prices.
