News Topical, Digital Desk : The story of Sita's Swayamvara is one of the most important chapters of the Indian epic Ramayana. The bow that was required to be lifted and strung in this Swayamvara was named Pinaka. Pinaka was no ordinary bow, but the divine and powerful weapon of Lord Shiva himself, also known as Shivadhanush (Pinaka Dhanush Story) .
The story of the origin and form of the Pinaka bow
According to mythology, the Pinaka bow (Lord Shiva's Divine Bow) was created by the divine architect Vishwakarma from a divine bamboo. Lord Shiva used it to kill the demon Tripurasura. The Pinaka bow was so massive and heavy that it was beyond the capacity of an ordinary human to lift it. It is said that its weight and length were both much greater than that of an average human.
This bow was kept in a massive iron box, which required hundreds of men to even bring to the assembly. Later, Lord Shiva handed it to Parashurama, who in turn gave it to Devaratha, an ancestor of King Janaka of Mithila.
Interesting story of Swayamvar
It is said that as a child, Goddess Sita, while playing, would lift the enormous bow that even the mightiest warriors could not move. Seeing this amazing sight, King Janaka vowed that his daughter would marry only the bravest man who could lift and string the bow. When Sita's Swayamvar (Sita Swayamvar Legend) took place, many mighty kings and princes from far and wide attended, but none could even move the bow.
When all efforts failed, King Janaka was deeply saddened. Then, at the behest of his Guru Vishwamitra, Lord Rama strung the bowstring, fulfilling King Janaka's vow.
