News Topical, Digital Desk : Paush Month 2025: The month of Paush began on December 5, 2025, and will end on January 3, 2026, on Paush Purnima. According to the calendar, Kharmas will also begin on December 16. Despite being religiously auspicious, all auspicious events like marriage, tonsure, housewarming, and starting a new business are prohibited during this month. Let's explore the religious beliefs behind this.

Effect of Kharmas

The biggest reason for the absence of auspicious events during the month of Paush is the occurrence of Kharmas, or Dhanu Sankranti, during this period. At the beginning of the month of Paush, the Sun enters the Sagittarius sign, which is called Dhanu Sankranti. The ruler of Sagittarius is Jupiter, the presiding deity. According to astrological calculations, when the Sun enters Jupiter's sign, the Sun's radiance is so intense that it diminishes Jupiter's radiance. It is said that strong Jupiter and Venus are essential for marriage and other auspicious events. Due to Jupiter's weakness, auspicious events performed during this period do not yield positive results, and relationships fail to succeed. This is why auspicious events are avoided during this period.

Mythology and belief

There's a popular story in mythology about Kharmas. Once, the Sun God was circling the universe on his chariot drawn by seven horses. Tired from the journey, his horses stopped to rest and drink water. He left them beside a pond to rest.

He harnessed donkeys to pull the chariot. The donkeys were moving very slowly, significantly slowing the Sun's speed. Because of this slow pace and the use of donkeys instead of horses, this month came to be known as Kharmas and is considered inauspicious for auspicious works.

Do not do this work by mistake

  • Marriage - Marriage brings sourness in marital relationships.
  • Griha Pravesh - Entering a new house brings loss of happiness and peace in the house and poverty comes.
  • New Business - Starting a new work does not bring success and often leads to losses.
