News Topical, Digital Desk : While the dates for the Panchayat elections haven't been announced yet, political activity has already intensified in the district. The growing activism of old, rebellious, and controversial figures within the Samajwadi Party (SP) has posed a new challenge for the organization. Leaders with track records are at the forefront of the race for support.
Concerns are growing within the organization that if balance is not maintained when issuing letters of support, factionalism could become apparent. The experience of the last Panchayat elections also serves as a lesson for the SP, when 16 District Panchayat members won with the party's support, but most of them disappeared during the nomination process for the District Panchayat President or chose the path of rebellion and stood with the ruling party.
The situation was most complex in the Kanth assembly constituency. A district panchayat member here is considered close to the former MP, while a Dalit leader from the same constituency also won with the support of the Samajwadi Party (SP), but both were missing at the time of filing nominations. Additionally, another member disappeared after switching off his mobile phone during the election, leaving the organization in an uncomfortable position.
The party was also severely embarrassed. In the Thakurdwara constituency, a member who had won with the party's support withdrew at the last moment, fueling internal resentment. Meanwhile, a district panchayat member from a Yadav family openly rebelled. In the Bilari, Moradabad Rural assembly constituency, there are also several rebel members who did not stick with the party during difficult times.
Three district panchayat members from the Kundarki region have joined the ruling party through the back door. They are demonstrating their support for the party. One district panchayat member, who recently left the BSP, is now seeking support from the SP. The party faces the challenge of whether to prioritize outsiders or longtime members.
Political experts believe that the SP will have to be extremely cautious in selecting candidates to support this time. Internal evaluation, feedback at the block and district levels, and a transparent process can only keep the organization united.
Keeping distance from faces with rebellious image and giving opportunity to ground workers can strengthen the credibility of the party. If the strategy is not made in time, then SP may have to bear the brunt of internal strife and dissatisfaction in the Panchayat elections.
