News Topical, Digital Desk : Former Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Padma Shri awardee Subbanna Ayyappan was found dead in the Cauvery river near Srirangapatna. According to information received from the police, his body was found floating in the water on Saturday, after which it was taken out. Police said that he used to meditate often at the Sai Baba Ashram located on the banks of the Cauvery river in Srirangapatna. According to the police, his two-wheeler was found on the river bank and it is suspected that he may have jumped into the river. However, the police said that the cause of his death will be known only after investigation. Let us tell you that 70-year-old Ayyappan was an agriculture and fisheries (aquaculture) scientist and the first non-crop scientist to lead ICAR. Ayyappan was a resident of Vishwaeshwar Nagar Industrial Area in Mysore. He was missing since May 7, his family had lodged a complaint at Vidyaranyapuram police station in Mysore that he was missing on May 7. Ayyappan, who played an important role in India's 'Blue Revolution', is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Agriculture and fisheries scientist Ayyappan has worked in many cities. These include cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar and Bengaluru. Ayyappan was the first person who was not an agricultural scientist but still he led this organization, which was a big thing.

Was honored with Padma Shri in 2022

Ayyappan was awarded the Padma Shri in 2022. He was also the Vice Chancellor of the Central Agriculture University, Imphal. He worked in ICAR till 2016. During this time, he was also awarded the Rajyotsava Award in the year 2013. He was born on 10 December 1955 in Chamarajanagar district.
