News Topical, Digital Desk : Everyone is well aware of the problem of Mumbai's traffic jams. Especially during the rainy season, Mumbai's roads can become kilometer-long traffic jams (Mumbai Traffic Problems) , causing significant inconvenience to residents. However, the Maharashtra government has now developed a roadmap to rid Mumbai of the congestion.
The Maharashtra government is planning to gift Mumbai a new underground tunnel within the next seven years. This tunnel will connect key locations like the Bandra Sea Link, BKC, and Mumbai Airport. This will increase the average speed in Mumbai from 15-20 kilometers per hour to 80 kilometers per hour.
CM Fadnavis announced
According to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, "We are building Patal Lok, a network of underground tunnels that will solve Mumbai's traffic congestion problem." The CM says that 60 percent of Mumbai's traffic comes via the Western Express Highway. Therefore, the traffic congestion problem cannot be solved without an alternative route.
CM Fadnavis said-
A tunnel will be built from the Bandra Sea Link, connecting BKC and a second tunnel leading to Mumbai Airport. This will reduce congestion at BKC and allow people to reach Mumbai Airport in less time.
When will the project be completed?
According to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the tunnel is expected to be completed within the next seven years. If everything goes according to plan, Mumbai could be free of traffic congestion by 2032.
Furthermore, CM Fadnavis has called for converting the local trains, considered Mumbai's lifeline, into metro services. He says, "The train service will operate like the metro, and there will be no increase in fares."
