New Delhi: India had a bad start on the 12th day of Paris Olympics 2024. In the women's freestyle 50 kg semi-final, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat defeated Cuba's Yusnelis Guzman Lopez to get a ticket to the final. With this, India's medal was also confirmed. Vinesh Phogat was to play the final match tonight. However, during the weighing before the gold medal match on Wednesday morning, her weight was found to be 100 grams more. In such a situation, she has been disqualified.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha. He sought information from PT Usha about the issue and the options available to India after Vinesh's setback. He has asked PT Usha to explore all options to help Vinesh in her case. He also urged PT Usha to lodge a strong protest regarding her disqualification if it helps Vinesh. Earlier, the PM had encouraged Vinesh by tweeting.

PM Modi wrote on Twitter, "Vinesh, you are the champion of champions! You are the pride of India and an inspiration to every Indian. Today's setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair I am experiencing. At the same time, I know you are the epitome of resilience. It has always been your nature to take on challenges head on. Come back stronger! We are all by your side."
