News Topical, Digital Desk : First conceived in 1999, the Bairabi-Sairang railway line has overcome unprecedented challenges like frequent landslides and has finally put Mizoram capital Aizawl on the country's railway map.
This 51.38 km long railway line will soon be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to the documents, in 1999, when the engineers realised that a preliminary survey was not possible due to dense forest, low visibility and other local problems, it was agreed to conduct a survey anyway.
A senior railway official said that under Preliminary Engineering cum Traffic Survey (PET), a detailed examination of the route is carried out. Since the PET survey was not found feasible, the Board was requested to convert it into Revision Engineering cum Traffic (RET) Survey, to which the Railway Board agreed on July 15, 2003.
