Goa: Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that today due to the initiatives of the government, India is number one in the world in terms of livestock. Milk production is increasing continuously. The milk market is of 11.16 million. Global growth is increasing at the rate of 6 percent, while the world growth rate is 2 percent. Per capita consumption is 459 grams, while the world consumption is 325 grams. This consumption was 307 grams per capita in 2013-14, which has increased to 459 grams.

He said that similarly the market for eggs was 78 million, today it is close to 138 million. This is happening due to the efforts of the central government. Fish export is 60 thousand crores, while middlemen eat up 1.5 times the profit in milk. The biggest reason for this is that a large part of this sector is unorganized. Today there is a need to make this sector an organized sector, so that milk producing farmers can get full benefit.

'Many plans were made to organize the dairy sector'

The Union Minister said that several schemes have been made to identify states to organize the unorganized dairy sector and to deal with the shortage of fodder. The government has also approved three smart fish harbors and five aqua parks for development in the fisheries sector. Praising the efforts of CLFMA, he said that such brainstorming should bring out such things that help the government in making policies.

CLFMA of India Chairman Suresh Deora said that the livestock sector is an important axis of the Indian economy. This sector also provides employment to farmers and people associated with the animal husbandry sector. The annual turnover of this industry is Rs 12 lakh crore. The consumption of high quality livestock products is constantly increasing all over the world. With economic prosperity, people are consuming more eggs, meat, milk and cheese.
