New Delhi : The LCA AF Mark-2, a multi-role supersonic fighter jet indigenously developed by DRDO, will be inducted into the Indian Air Force by 2025. Vaji Rajpurohit, an employee of the Aeronautics Development Authority Agency, Bengaluru, said that the Air Force has planned to buy a total of 324 Tejas aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, which also includes the LCA AF Mark-2.

It is equipped with state-of-the-art systems like missile approach warning system. It is expected that in the next decade, LCA Mark-2 will replace older aircraft like Mirage 2000, Jaguar and MiG-29.

LCA was given the name 'Tejas' in 2003

Developed by the Indian Defence Laboratory, Tejas was first inducted into the Indian Air Force in the 1980s. It is a single-engine delta wing, multi-role light fighter, designed in collaboration with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's Aircraft Research and Design Centre. The LCA was officially named Tejas in 2003. It is considered to be the smallest and lightest aircraft in the fighter category.
