New Delhi: SC on Kolkata Doctor murder case the Kolkata trainee doctor murder case was heard again in the Supreme Court today. The court asked for a status report from the CBI and after seeing it, raised many questions. Along with this, the court also directed the CBI to submit a fresh status report by September 17. 

23 people lost their lives

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Bengal government, submitted a status report to the court today. Citing this report, the Supreme Court was told that 23 people died when doctors were not working in the state.

Questions raised on CCTV?

The Supreme Court wanted to know whether the footage of the search and seizure process carried out from 8:30 pm to 10:45 pm has been handed over to the CBI?

SG Mehta replied that 4 clips of footage and the total duration of the clips is 27 minutes have been submitted. SG Mehta said that CBI has decided to send the samples to AIIMS and other central forensic laboratories.

Asked the distance between Sandeep Ghosh's house and hospital

A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud asked about the distance between the residence of former RG Medical College principal Sandip Ghose and the hospital. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta replied that it was about 15-20 minutes away.

The Supreme Court sought clarification on the time of filing the report of unnatural death. Sibal pointed out that the death certificate was issued at 1:47 pm, but the FIR for unnatural death was lodged at the police station at 2:55 pm.

What did the Supreme Court say?

"A status report has been filed by the CBI, it appears that the investigation is in progress, we direct the CBI to file a fresh status report, we do not want to guide the CBI in its investigation," the bench said.

Mehta told the bench that the investigating agency has decided to send forensic samples to AIIMS for further investigation.

This is the whole matter

The alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor in a seminar hall of a government hospital had sparked protests across the country. On August 9, the body of the doctor was found with severe injury marks inside the seminar hall of the chest department of the hospital.

The next day, a volunteer was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the case. On 13 August, the Calcutta High Court ordered the investigation of the case to be handed over from the Kolkata Police to the CBI, which began its investigation on 14 August.
