News Topical, Digital Desk : Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane has sparked another controversy, saying that the BJP-led Mahayuti government in the state is a "Hindutva" government, elected with the support of Hindu votes, and that people wearing "gol topi" (Muslims) did not vote for this government. During a visit to the Sakal Hindu Samaj Durga pandal in Mumbai's Mankhurd area on Wednesday (September 24), Rane said that no one would be allowed to insult Hindu deities during the festival.
Nitesh Rane said, "This government has been elected with the votes of Hindus, those who wear round caps have not voted for it." Tensions arose in Mankhurd on Sunday (September 21) night after the alleged desecration of the idol of Goddess Durga, leading to clashes between two groups.
Will not tolerate those who spoil the atmosphere – Rane
The BJP leader, who participated in the Maha Aarti during the event, warned against disrupting the state's peaceful atmosphere. He said, "You celebrate your festivals peacefully, we will celebrate ours. Don't look at us with prejudice. We will not tolerate anyone trying to disrupt Mumbai's atmosphere."
Garba events are becoming centres of 'love jihad': Rane
He also said that if anyone needs permission to celebrate the festival, they should contact the government and permission will be granted immediately. On Monday, the minister claimed that Garba events during Navratri are becoming "hubs" of "love jihad." He supported the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's advisory asking organizers of such events to thoroughly check the identity documents of participants.
Muslims were told 'green snake'
In July, Rane sparked controversy with his comments on voting patterns, calling Muslims "green snakes." He said he became an MLA with the support of Hindu voters.
