This year, Mahashivratri is being marked by the conjunction of Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga and Pradosh. After many years, this opportunity has arisen when the Moon will be near its exalted sign during Shiva worship, bringing mental peace and relief from financial difficulties. It is said that worship performed on this day will yield multifold benefits, and all desires will be fulfilled.

• First period - 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
• Second period – 9:00 pm to 12:00 pm.
• Third period – 12:00 to 3:00 at night.
• Fourth period – from 3:00 to 6:00 in the morning.

Method of worship

• On the day of Mahashivratri, wake up before sunrise and take bath by mixing Ganga water.
• Wear white or yellow clothes for the puja.
• Take a vow of fasting in front of Lord Shiva by holding water, Akshat and flowers in your hand.
• First of all offer water on Shivling.
• Then offer milk, curd, ghee, honey and sugar.
• Finally, offer pure water or Ganga water.
• Offer a three-leafed Bilva leaf by saying 'Om Namah Shivay'.
• Also offer Datura fruit, flowers and cannabis to Mahadev.
• Apply white sandalwood tilak.
• Offer unbroken rice.
• Offer Aak, Kaner or white flowers.
• Light a lamp with cow ghee.
• Offer seasonal fruits and white sweets.
• Chant the mantra 'Om Namah Shivay' during the puja.

• Tulsi leaves, vermillion or turmeric should never be offered on Shivling.
