
News Topical, Digital Desk : The recent heavy rains and floods in Maharashtra have severely affected the state's farmers. Crops on approximately 6.5 to 6.8 million hectares of land have been destroyed. In many areas, cattle were swept away, houses and shops collapsed, and roads, bridges, and infrastructure were damaged. To help farmers recover during this crisis, the state government has announced a special relief package of ₹31,628 crore.
The Chief Minister said, "Under this package, immediate financial assistance will be provided to the families of the deceased, the injured, and those hospitalized. All affected families are receiving immediate assistance of 10,000 rupees, while shop owners will receive 50,000 rupees. Those whose houses have completely collapsed will receive assistance to build new ones, and those whose houses were partially damaged will also receive compensation."
Compensation for making the land cultivable
The government has also decided to provide assistance for building cattle sheds. Previously, NDRF regulations limited compensation to up to three lactating animals, but now compensation is applicable to all animals. Similarly, the compensation limit has been increased from 2 hectares to 3 hectares. Farmers whose land was washed away by floods or is no longer cultivable will receive ₹47,000 in cash and ₹3 lakh through the NREGA scheme to help them restore their land to cultivation.
Compensation package for crop loss
To compensate for crop losses, the government has announced a crop compensation package of ₹17,675 crore. Under this scheme, farmers in dryland farming will receive ₹8,500 per hectare, farmers in partially irrigated areas will receive ₹17,000 per hectare, and farmers in fully irrigated areas will receive ₹22,500 per hectare.
Additionally, farmers who lost their Kharif crops will receive an additional Rs 10,000 per hectare to restart farming in the Rabi season. This brings the total compensation to Rs 32,500 per hectare.
How much amount will the farmers who take crop insurance get?
Additionally, 4.5 million farmers who have taken out crop insurance are expected to receive an additional ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 crore from insurance companies. 29 districts, 253 talukas, and 2,059 mandals in the state have been affected by this disaster. The government has implemented the Government Resolution (GR) applicable in drought situations with this relief package.

CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "It is not possible to fully compensate farmers for their mental and financial suffering, but the government has a responsibility to stand with every farmer and enable them to resume farming for the coming season. This relief package reflects the state government's strong commitment and sensitivity toward the rehabilitation of farmers."
